The highest point reached on this train ride is the La Raya Pass at an altitude of 4.319m. Look out your window at the rushing water making its way into the Pacific coast. Lunch time on board of the train is included. Once you have arrived at your destination Puno, check into the hotel, and then sight-see for the rest of the day. The grave towers of Sillustani on a peninsula at the Umayo-Lake are worth a visit.
The Golf Club of Arequipa is a great place to practice your swing! (18 holes, Par 72, 6980 yards).
After lunch, embark on an excursion to Valparaíso, the oldest port in Chile. Take a city tour, visiting the new government houses, the Plaza Sotomayor, the Plaza Victoria, the cathedral, and the harbor area. High above the city there is a fantastic agglomeration of brightly painted homes. The upper and lower parts of the city are connected with 16 funicular railways constructed around the turn of the century when the city experienced tremendous growth. From Valparaíso, continue along the coast to the beautiful beaches of Viña del Mar, the Garden city, named for its many parks and green spaces. Take some time in one of the most attractive ones, the Parque Quinta Vergara with an amphitheater and the Museo de Bellas Artes. Viña del Mar is a lively city with attractive beaches, modern hotels, high-end restaurants and fashionable bars. Return to Santiago.
During your time here, visit Santa Rita. The company currently has a total of four cellars for the wine producing process located in Alto Jahuel, Los Lirios, Palmilla, and Lontué. French and American oak barrels are used in the aging cellars, where wine acquires complexity and body, with a woody flavor and a soft and delicate aroma. One of Chile’s oldest aging cellars is located in Alto Jahuel (Buin.). Viña Santa Rita’s best wines, like Casa Real and Medalla Real Cabernet Sauvignon for export, are aged in the cave of this storehouse. This cellar was built with stone masonry by French architects and has been declared a National Monument. After visit transfer to Santa Cruz. Dinner and overnight in the 4* Santa Cruz Hotel.
Visit three more wineries on the Valle de Colchagua with their own history and charm. Learn about the latest technology incorporated into the production of their fine wines, which you will have the chance to taste and acquire at special prices. Visitors are accompanied by guides who speak Spanish, English, French and German. With great warmth, the visitor will be able to discover the reasons behind the best of Chile’s wines. Wine tasting, lunch & dinner included.
